Greetings,
I have a 2007 XC90 Sport that a few days ago the rear tailgate handle no longer works. I can open the tailgate from the inside emergency open and I can hear the mechanism working to unlock it when I press the key. The handle just will not engage anything.
It leads me to believe the handle is broken.
I have found a handle replacement on the Volvo Parts website (Part Number: 31253018 ; 30753110 )
I also found a video on YouTube which show replacement.
It is a bit onerous but seems doable, with enough time.
Any thoughts? Am I thinking correctly?
Thank you in advance.
Sal

The cable can get stretched causing a lack of function. I had to replace mine on my 2004 XC90 for this issue. I don't recall if I bought a new cable or a used unit as it was a few years back.

You are taking about the outside handle to lift the rear hatch or the handle for the tiny tailgate to drop?
The outside rear hatch is sticking in both our xc's. Looks like the pin or metal is rusted out. We can open them but then I have to stick a screw driver back in to pry the handle back out for next time we need to use it. Very annoying.
If you change this please let us know how it goes.

Mattbchillin - sounds like your cable is stretched. What you describe is how mine behaved prior to repair.
