Agreed. Is there a better way to check injectors than a test light? I have pressure at the rail, and good readings on cam and crank sensors per Chilton/Haynes and a couple of older posts on this siteprecopster wrote: ↑09 Jul 2018, 00:50 The fact it starts on starter fluid means it has to be a fuel issue.

In what manner did you confirm you have fuel pressure? How did you confirm your pump is working? Have you put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail?
Dumb question - how long has the fuel filter been in service? Could you have messed something up here?
Can you flush out with more detail your testing of the tank to fuel rail delivery?

Fuel filter is very close to new. This is the only shoddy troubleshoot that has been done, pressure was checked at the fuel rail with the tip of a screwdriver first, convincing me I had good pressure. Not having a fuel pressure gauge I checked it with a tire pressure gauge. I know it’s not ideal but I’ve got 45ish if I recallSuperHerman wrote: ↑09 Jul 2018, 12:37 In what manner did you confirm you have fuel pressure? How did you confirm your pump is working? Could be an immobilizer issue - on the later models more common. Not sure how to verify.

Talked to a local euro car repairer, he suggested maybe the chip in the key was expired, to try spare key. Did so, no change. Pulled key switch apart and cleaned contacts, got the alarm to go off after everything was put back together. Lol no change there either. Everything I see says immobilizer wasn’t used on the 98. This weekends plans are to start over from the OP. Put it back in the air and check anything that was touched for the half shaft/brakes and then verify readings on all the sensors. I have verified the sensors are reading right, but maybe those values aren’t making back to the computer due to bad circuitry. I hate to throw this car away so I’m going to have to keep digging. It will have to involve a scanner that provides live data. My thought is if the computer isn’t getting the signals I am getting, either I have a bad wire or the computer is junk. It has been to doggone hot to spend much time looking into it. I appreciate all the responses and will update when I come up with something conclusiveSuperHerman wrote: ↑11 Jul 2018, 18:20 Could be an immobilizer issue - on the later models more common. Hey there, this is my first post, as i have been lurking for quite a long time here. Anyway, i used to have a 96 850T5 that would do that exact thing, and also had a 99 S70T5 that would start fine until it got to operating temp, then would not start again until completely cooled off, but would start with spray assistance. Point being, in BOTH cases it was the FPR. The fuel pressure regulator was the last thing i replaced the first time it happened with my 850 wagon, but, the second time with the S70, i replaced it second after the fuel pump. Have you checked your FPR?

The only thing I see resembling a fpr is on the passenger side of the fuel rail, underneath, and it doesn’t appear to have a lines or wires going to it, just plugged into the rail.SpookyDuchess wrote: ↑13 Jul 2018, 12:54 Hey there, this is my first post, as i have been lurking for quite a long time here. After retracing my footsteps, I’ve got battery voltage at both 2 and 3 on the cam position sensor wiring. 2 should be around 5 volts? 35 ohms on pin one. Naturally with the key on

That is a fuel pressure damper.
Fpr is somewhere in steering rack area or behind passenger side rear wheel...around fuel filter...depending which engine management the car have.

Update: Went to the local salvage yard today and grabbed a handful of relays and the ecu. Ecu made no change, changed out the relay(timing advance)? driver side above the radiator, I finally got a sputter, then nothing. I was like WTF? Traced vac lines, found one on the back of the engine, driver side. It was deteriorated, I spun it 1/4 turn and the brick fired, ran smoother than ever before. I will be replacing said vac line. I appreciate all the comments and advice. If there is a Volvo Master Tech out there that can comment on this, that would also be appreciated. Someone, sometime will google this and it may help them along the way.
