Shihab, post the first eleven positions of the VIN number.
:) Agreed, the VIN decoder doesn't mean that, however the info in the thread (posts, photos) sure supports it! But yes, I also requested the VIN anyway, just to confirm. Then we can quit chasing our tails.

- Read the decoding sheet: if a car is engine 55 (yes, that's B5254S) and has EGR, then it must be emissions code 1 or 3. No two ways about it. Emissions codes 1 and 3 are both Motronic 4.3.

- Read the very first post, the car has EGR. In fact it also says the car is emissions code 3.

OE ECT is around 50$ plus thermostat...at least 10$.
You can by new garbage for 10$ which will not work.

I'm pretty sure I used a decoder in the first place to figure out what my car is lol, but to settle the controversy:

Yeah, "by the book" can be pretty unsatisfactory, especially if the book has obvious errors. But with some data Occam's razor is pretty reliable. No cobbling here, just another 95 NA.

Shihab's VIN is the only thing I have seen that says, a 1995 850 with a B5254S was mated to Motronic 4.3.

To reiterate, just actually read http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... n1995.html, there is no mystery here.

If it's a 95 with engine 55 and automatic transmission, then it has Motronic 4.3 engine management. That particular book has been proven countless times to be not wrong, and it says that for the US market, *all* 95 automatic, non-turbos are 4.3.

In that '95...M4.3 exists just like 850 with ME7.
Not being sarcastic....just realistic.
On the other hand....U.S market 850 and s,v70 untill '99 didn't had chipped keys while EU cars had them since '96.
That said....it could be something like US market ONLY,but in EU and other markets there is no '95 na with anything else than Jetronic.
I guess that this case is the rare one even for US market....if something wasn't messed up by previous owner.

shihabafi wrote: 17 Jul 2018, 16:54 ...Is now a good time to mention that when we pulled out a Camshaft Position Sensor (for my most recent job), we pulled one out of a non-turbo and it started smoking up. So we matched up the part numbers and noticed they weren't the same. So we went back to the junkyard to find one that matched our part, and lo and behold, it belonged to a turbo-ed engine. We were also confused, but hey, the numbers matched....
Did somebody payed attention to this post?
To me..it sounds like it WAS a turbo car somewhere in the past....and converted to a non turbo.
That would explain why it have M4.3 in a '95 or M4.4 for which i would need Bosch numbers from ecu for confirmation.

I posted a pic of the ECU on pg 1, might be clear enough to decipher, if not, let me know. But if it was a turbo, then wouldn't it have the air box that has "turbo" written on it? And also the turbo guage? It just seems like a lot of work that wouldn't be worth it...
