Current thinking on best axel boots?

Post by JimBee »

I just noticed that the outer drivers side axle boot on my 93 850 manual is split and slinging grease. One more thing to repair before putting it back on the road in November.

Reviews on FCP axle boots vary from made of plastic and good for 2 years, to great, including fitment.

Rein boots seem commonly available. Has anyone had this brand installed for a while, or otherwise some knowledge about them?

Other brands?

I checked Tascaparts.com. They don't list boots as available for the 93 but do list them for 95.

I've replaced one 10 years ago when I bought the car, but don't recall if the 93 was unique. Does anyone know?

GKN is what you need if you want them to last.

Nothing special for the 1993.
There is a Inner & outer boot, one each left and right.
Here is a Inner & Outer kit that fits your '93 manual for $23.19.
It is OEM Quality, guaranteed for life, for as long as you own the vehicle.

Here a Genuine Volvo, same part number as Tasca for less.

I would only use Volvo OE or GKN (OEM) branded parts unless you like do-overs on work in a short time.

Thanks for the info. FCP lists the "genuine Volvo" parts number, but seems to indicate it's a Rein product. I'll call them tomorrow to clarify.

I wouldn't use Rein. Search my thread on front axle removal to do boots! The passenger outer tore (may have hit something?!). I've been putting it off though I do have a GKN boot.

Eek, definitely do not use Rein CV boots unless you are excited to know you will be pulling the axle again soon. It's been checked out thoroughly on the forum, they do not last. GKN is the only way to go.

Sorry also I don't know if the 93 uses a different boot. You'll have to trust the online sources that say they are the same, that usually works out.
