Parts ordering and engine identification??

Post by anthonytsi »

I have a 1996 Volvo 850 turbo and am about to get the full timing kit from Rockauto. The parts specify what engine number correlate to the parts. It is a 6 digit number. Is that the last 6 digits of the engine serial # or the last 6 digits of the vin #? Sorry if this is a stupid question, however, I have seen mistakes made in this area on the part of the website (seller). Thanks in advance.

That may not be the best place to buy mission critical parts.
I’m sure you know that the white block I5 is an interference engine.
Timing belt parts are not worth going budget on... FCP Euro can hook
you up with an OEM Continental belt and all of the OEM accessories
to greatly reduce the likelyhood of great sadness under your hood.

There are also some excellent videos on the site that will walk you
through the procedure and make the job a lot easier to tackle.

And, of course, FCP is an MVS supporter. And they have an outstanding
Lifetime parts warranty. Don’t take my word for it - Check’em out! ;)

On my V70R there is a sticker on the timing belt cover that has the engine serial# on it. I also would recommend buying parts from FCP Euro rather than RockAuto. The lifetime warranty on their parts should be a no-brainer.

The Volvo branded timing belt kit bought from Volvo or from IPD has consistently been the cheapest way to get the quality rollers and belt.
