This was a whole lot of unpleasant work but im so glad it happend now that im on the other side. My old motor was worn out more than i realized. My new motor is working grear and much faster and my car is running better than ever.

Just goes to show sometimes amazing things arrive wrapped up in a whole lot of unpleasant.

Btw, how exactly did that floor jack trouble start? Where did you put the jack?

Asking out of curiosity and also because I´ll have a second try on my hydraulic motor mounts and need to lift the engine a bit for that purpose.

Unfortunately it wasnt my first time pulling a t5 motor. Had the old out 4 months or so back for the manual swap and an overhaul and long story short... it leaked from new rear main seal after i reinstalled the motor and i had to pull it a 2nd time. So went much faster this time even wirh pulling donor motor. Could probably do it with eyes closed at this point.

You can either use a lift/hoist to lift the motor or put a 2x6 beteern oil pan and jack. Ive done both ways successfully in the past but going forward i wont be putting anything against my oil pan just seems too risky.

I was attempting to get the car real high off ground so had placed my floor jack with a chunk of 2x4 on top under the subframe (same as i had done many times before), except this time it just didnt line up right and before i could do anything slid off the 2x4 and edge of jack got the oil pan barely punching two tiny slits in it.

Did you do the engine and trans drop vs a cherry picker? Interested in your take on that.

Never dropped the tranny via subfrane even though ive read its quicker. For me since ive pulled these motors before once or twice i dont think it would be quicker plus less rime under the car is better in opinion. Not much to pulling it right out the topside really.
