Transmission swap

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not please let me know. I have a 2001 Volvo V70 XC and the transmission is basically done. It started shifting hard and throwing codes. Then third gear went completely out (the nut was never removed so the band either broke or is wore out. I have a 2000 Volvo V70 with the same transmission in it. I have looked at both and they are identical, the tag on each transmission says 55-50SN. Can I pull the one from the 2000 V70 and put it in the 2001 V70 XC?

There's a xc70 to xc70 swap on youtube, maybe ask that channel, he seems to say that's the same mechanical even between an s40 and the xc70 but the wiring/valve body may differ.

I would focus on the valve body. Either do a Transgo rebuild or Rostra solenoids. Also check the B4 servo.

If this does not work then reuse the parts on the tranny swap. You will learn a bunch and familiarize your self w the valve body which you may have to swap over in the end.

You will be out tranny fluid and time, but if all goes well that is easier than a tranny swap if it works.

Use Valvoline MaxLife. Cheap and works just fine.
