Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Replaced rear control arm bushing on the RF lower control arm on my 2010 XC60 T6. Took care of the steering wheel shimmy upon braking at speeds. That is a hydraulic damped bushing and if they get oily and you have brake shimmy with no pedal vibration and no hole car vibes then the bushing is likely it. Benz and BMW have long histories of their control arm bushings doing this. I guess Volvo decided they needed a Euro luxury car wear item to compete with their peers.

Changed out rotten vacuum hoses for new ones.
The transparent one was put in 2 weeks/ ~1200km ago as a temporary fix untill new ones came in, and it already almost collapsed!

Got my R running again today! Started right up, and it only has 3 codes! One for intake air temp sensor and the other two for lack of communication with the transmission (obviously...).
The car won't move unfortunately, but I think that's due to the passenger axle. The car still rolls when it's in gear, and only the driver's side axle is turning, so I think the issue is the AW55 pass. side axle that I reused. The driver's side AW55 axle seems to be just fine.

It is a B5234T from a '96 855 Turbo that had been sitting pretty much buried in the dirt in a junkyard since 2011. Took a chance on it for $350, and I'm glad I did.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑14 Oct 2018, 16:32Nice! That's pretty odd, axle splines seated okay in the transmission?

Started messing with the PCV service on the '97 T5. It's been puffing a little smoke lately.
The previous owner said he had recently done a PCV service when I bought the car.
If by "service" he meant throwing hoses on there with no clamps of any sort, and not tightening all of the lower intake bolts, then OK, a service.

The parts as they came out of the car. Notice NO clamps, whatsoever. The drain ports into the engine looked clear, at least, but none of the hose fittings were tight/snug.
I'm doing the "high-mileage" mod, with the larger ID tubing and opening up the hole in the PTC valve a bit.

Not a whole lot of time to work on this, so I'm really not going to get to do clean any of that crud off of the block at this moment, unfortunately.
I am replacing a bunch of dead vac lines and IC couplers with silicone, though.

The axle seems to be in the transmission fine, but it may not be seated in the wheel hub. I'm going to pull the wheel off again today and see what's going on.
I just realized that I won't be able to use the AW55 axle anyway since the outer diameter is a lot smaller and the axle seal will just pour out fluid. Out with the axle again... crossing my fingers the correct axle will allow me to drive the car now!

Farmed out my tie rod ends and FWA
I had a look at the tie rod and it was frozen, trip to BOS tomorrow, managed to drop car at local indie, wcm picked me up, and had car back by noon with two new tie rods and FWA for $90.
Have to say, it was worth it.
