All Gauges out, and digital Outside Temp, Gas info, etc Out as well

Post by bradmball73 »

My speedometer went out and the ABS lights came one. I replaced the ABS module. The lights for ABS light went out, and speedometer still didn't work. Then, I replaced the battery, and battery positive terminal connector (where wire connects, Not the actual clamp that connects to the battery) and now of my gauges and none of the digital information for the Outside temp, MPG info, etc is working either. From what I read online, the actual instrument cluster do usually not go in these cars. Please help

Electrical portion of the ignition switch. Try jiggling the key, see if that exacerbates symptoms.

1st...remove negative battery cable for about 15min and re-connect.
2.Check ALL fuses

There is a BIG possibility that you fried something when you worked on positive side of the battery IF you didn't remove battery cables first.

I hope that you didn't mixed connections....+ On - and - on +.

Did you check the condition of the B+ cable at the battery and more importantly at the main fuse box? Check it carefully at the fusebox end. It attaches via a brass nut at the front of the box forward of the brake booster. The nut should be shiny. Shine a flashlight downward at that point and check to see the cable has not melted as it will short out.

Do you have any codes being thrown?

Neil.

Just the negative...therefore leaving positive connected to battery?

What "just negative"?
Negative was disconnected while you worked on positive terminal?

Yes. Just the negative, for 15 minutes.

Remove the key from the ignition lock...just to make sure that ignition IS NOT ON while disconnecting & re-connecting negative battery terminal...wait for 1-2 minutes allowing instrument cluster to settle and check if it's working.
Meanwhile....check for ALL fuses and that positive terminal for poor connection...since all of this happened when you replaced it.
