2K V70R M56 Swap Lower Rad Hose Routing

Post by bmdubya1198 »

Now that everything is together, I guess it's time for the small things to start being a nuisance! I realized the way I had the lower radiator hose routed was not going to work, since the clutch fork presses into it when I depress the clutch (external slave).
I checked out the routing on my cousin's '99 S70 T5 auto and my '98 V70 GLT auto and they both have the bend going towards the passenger side. However when I try to route the hose that way, it's not long enough to reach the fitting on the back of the engine. Any other way I try to route it, it's getting in the way of either the clutch fork or the gear selector on top of the trans.

AFAIK, the lower hose is the same part for all turbo P80s... unless the 2000 MY used a different rear water pipe (wouldn't be too surprised). The hoses were used (they're silicone and in good shape, believe me, I hate buying used parts like this otherwise!), and came off a 1999 C70 HPT M56, so they should be the same, although the C70 probably used an internal slave.

That hose doesn’t look right. Do you have it on backwards. ?

No worries, I'm gonna continue moving this thing around until I figure it out... unless I can't. I'll take a look at how my cousin's '98 V70 M56 has it routed.

Short hose is short? Like, there should be about 3 more inches on the back end of that hose to properly route it over the top of the slave cylinder? Or more like, the distance between the first two turns isn't quite long enough..

Mine's sorted out like: after exiting the radiator it takes a left turn upward (toward passenger side) and is long enough to reach over the top of the slave cylinder and subsequently hugs the block heading rearward to the back of the engine.

That's how my cousin's is, but he has the internal slave on his car. I don't know why the hose should be too short, I didn't think there was more than one version for turbo P80s.

There is only one version - check out the kit from do88 - https://www.do88.se/sv/artiklar/volvo-8 ... angar.html

There's also dimensions on one of the pics, and one semi good one of the routing.

That's a decent pic of the position of that first bend. I'll take a look in a few minutes and see what I can do with it!

Update... I ordered a Rein lower radiator hose from FCP, just got here yesterday. This one was definitely longer than the Samco silicone hose I had, as it fits perfectly! I should have pulled out the Samco hose from my stash of parts to compare them, but I was feeling lazy...
It's hard to see in the picture, but there's a good inch or so between the hose and the slave cylinder, whereas with the silicone hose it was either touching the rod or the clutch fork was hitting it, depending on how it was positioned.
