Hi,
I have a 1998 S70 NA with a flashing arrow light. When I've connected my OBD reader is says the vehicle has no DTC codes. I tried rolling the shifter through the gears and the arrow light went away but then came back after 5 min of driving. The other thing is that my RPM's are about 2500-2600 when driving at 60 mph which seams higher than usual even though these cars have odd gear ratios. I'm trying to figure out if I'm missing like a 4th gear or lock up solenoid or if the transmission is in some sort of limp mode from a bad pnp switch. At this point I'm guessing I need some sort of factory compatible scan tool to retrieve the trans codes. VOL-FCR is $150 plus you need an old Windows XP laptop to run it so it's kinda of a shot in the dark for $200 to try to get that to work. Does anyone know if the LED flash reader method shown in the videos below would be able to retrieve the codes on my particular car?
S70 Flashing transmission (arrow) light, How to retrieve codes?

Generic scan tools can't retrieve transmission codes....ONLY engine ecu.
You will need at least Vol-Fcr since OBDII vehicles doesn't produce flash codes.
Vol-fcr is around 50$ nowadays...including cable(VAG-COM KKL).

850 OBD-II ($1.99), Volvo850diag (Free but requires some work to get it working) or VOL-FCR 1.3 that can be found on the internet will read the transmission codes.
