This only happens after car is warmed up, mostly in afternoon.
First time in morning, it starts fine with just a few cranks.
After warmed up, it seems not cranking, just some weak noise like sizzling. Seems the starter is not spinning. Try twice to 4 times, it could get spinning up and start finally.
Is the starter too old? I don't know when it was replaced and car is at 228k miles now. Previous owners seems drove lots of highway and I drive mostly city streets, such as 6 trips a day.

Sometimes starters that are going won't work when hot. If you have a multi-meter, check battery voltage while attempting to crank when this happens, as well as first thing in the morning. If the starter is toast, you'll see a much higher voltage drop when it doesn't crank usually.

Thanks for quick response. I'll also try jump start in afternoon when it is hard to start. If battery is weak, morning is usually the hard time. And battery is only two years old.
Also could it be crank shaft position sensor is too old and affected by temperature?

I'm not thinking it's the battery - I'm thinking it's the starter. Jump starting it will defeat the voltage drop test.

Last Thursday I had to try 5 times to start it. I tried once in morning and it starts fine. But I got time today so replaced the starter.
Feels much better now.
It is quite routine work. Just need to take out air box, fan (and disconnect harnesses), disconnect intake hose, and replace it. Found a previous post here with good advice. Got a ratchet wrench and it really helps in the tight space.
