remote lock issue

Post by Goosey »

I've had an issue with my remote lock. It's actually been an issue for over 12 years and I have never found the answer so maybe someone out there has solved this one. When I first bought the car the remote worked perfectly. It would lock and unlock from a good distance away. Then suddenly is would only work if I was right next to the car or touching the roof bars. I've replaced the battery many times and had the dealer check the remote but nothing has made it work as new. It does work, just not at any distance. Any ideas?????

The internal antenna in the remote may have broken. Or the receiver is just barely hanging on to life. That's what I would look at.

I have no idea how the remote lock works on these cars, but if the remote still works up against the car, it is certainly a signal issue which points to the transmitter or the receiver.

I find anything that uses radio frequency tends to fail with age. All my P80's have been the same. I have ended up replacing them with aftermarket remote start systems which give much better distance (6000ft) like Viper.

Another good example is routers for computers. We have to replace them every 3-4 years as they become unusable.
