This cant be - P1332/ cvvt solenoid - 2000 V70

Post by Budman »

So, newbie here. I have a 2000 V70 I just bought 3 months ago. Runs fine but the CEL ust came on. My analyzer says a P1332/ cvvt solenoid. The forum said it could be a bad Cam shaft position sensor. I guess it is. The wires to it are cut, as in severed. How is this thing even starting, much less operating daily for the wife? I would think it would be impossible to jump out anything in the system to bypass this sensor. It took me a while to find the sensor. I have a 2.4 turbo and the sensor is on the back of the engine on tranny side. It wasn't where all the videos say t is. 3 wires, blue, red, and looks like a black. Also found a female connector with corresponding connectors lying on the starter. What gives here? How is this thing working?

Well... it’s certainly possible for an engine to run without the CPS, and it might feel like it’s running okay, even. Though it’s likely that it’s running on some kind of backup solution, like firing coils in some kind of combination pattern or other.

That said, I haven’t heard of this on Volvos, but it’s most certainly a thing both for BMWs and Fords, amongst others, so it’s likely same goes for the Swedish steel.

The CPS and the CVVT are two very different things, though. You should make sure you have a working CPS, hook it back up and see what happens.

But yea, the car could well be able to run without it. :)
