I found out a while ago that our 04' V70 is a PZEV vehicle. After some digging I also learned that for these cars, the timing belt change interval is 150k or 15 years. Hard to believe, but that's what Volvo says.
Now, our car had the timing belt replaced at 109k, I have proof of that. But my question is can the PZEV timing belt and components be replaced with a regular one (possibly by accident), or does that not even fit?
Because if it doesn't, then my next belt replacement is much further out than I thought.
In my mind it is crazy to even go that far, but hey, if Volvo says it...
Thanks for your wisdom on this.
Dirk

I very much doubt the actual belt and other parts are different and that it's just a question of risk evaluation on Volvo's part with regard to regulations, service cost and risk of breakdown. Belts within and even over the age of 10 very rarely break unless something else goes wrong and kills them. But someone had better back my assumption up before you take it as fact
The interval for newer models timing belts are 240000 km. Still just a rubber belt. Obviously works ok.

Aka the California mystery. As mentioned, belt and pulleys are the same, only difference is some engine tuning or like so. Doubt the belt would do a 150k miles

The belt will do 150k miles just fine. Lots of documented cases here.

The most important thing is to periodically check the belt path for skew and check the temperature adjustment as well as to physically inspect the water pump which is on the same belt for leakage.
If you don't know how to do this read up here or employ a good indie mechanic who can.

Thank you guys!
The whole thing is still a little mysterious to me, but the consensus seems to be that common sense is to be used and check/ replace TB as appropriate.
