Thanks! I've heard good things about XPEL as well, but it's not worth putting anything like that on this car, either. The paint is in decent shape, but there are plenty of rock chips. This will become my daily driver soon enough, so I'm not too bothered by it.

It wasn't saffron, was it? I think that color only came on the European market 1998 S70R.

No, saffron is more gold, this was more orange, similar to Mclaren's volcano orange metalic. Maybe it was a custom paint job?

Bad news from my alignment shop today. I've got play in my inner tie rods. Something to look forward to doing over the holiday.

The new nano sealants weren't around just a few years ago. They're absolutely amazing compared to traditional waxes at least when it comes to the work-results ratio. Try them before getting the "good old stuff", which will still be there if you don't become a believer. If you're in Europe Labpcosmetica Beneficia should be easy to get as an alternative to the CarPro version.
I know what you mean. One of those nano sealers I use is from Autoglym, it's called the Quick Aqua wax and the results (on a clean and wet car) are amazing. You can wax your whole car in like, 15 to 20 minutes. I'm curious what results Meguiars and ProTech give on the S70.
That's still a wax. Not what I'm talking about. Check out CarPro HydrO2 on YouTube and you'll see what I mean. Two-three minutes to seal the car.
Thanks for the tip! I've ordered it from eBay Germany :-)

Very possible it was custom. I don't know, I think Saffron looks more orange than anything, similar to that McLaren color. It definitely has a gold hue depending on the light, though.

Tip on the tie rods... it's not a bad job, but be prepared with a big pipe wrench and plenty of PB blaster. Mine were pretty tight in there!

In the light I saw it in, it was very orange with a lot of metallic flake in it. Paint was in amazing shape, so I did wonder if it was repainted. I didn't bother checking the chassis plate under the hood. Interior was in good shape too. I hope someone bought it and saved it from the crusher. The more I think about it, the more I regret not nabbing it. All stock and even still had the amp and 6 pack cd changer. Could you get a 1998 S70 T5 in saffron in the US? It was definitely not an R, or else I would have bought without hesitation.

I don't think so. The only US models to be sold in Saffron were the 1998 V70R and 1998 C70. But you never know, there are some one-offs around! It was probably a respray, though.

The R;s are easy to catch, the T5s on the other hand, if you blink you miss them.

Went to visit my 1998 Volvo V70 T5 in my parents' driveway, and my brother opened up the timing cover. There was moisture on the cover bolt, possibly coolant. (That coolant tank also looks dirty!) Is that indicative of a leak somewhere?

The new-ish looking pump appeared to be of generic origin, and it was dry. Unfortunately, there was no timing belt sticker anywhere, though it appeared to be in good shape for a T5 with 200,000k miles.
