S40 Won't Start After Rebuild

Post by jtgray540 »

I have a 2005 S40 2.4i. Bought it broken down, worked with a mechanic to rebuild the motor. What caused it to break down was some sort of timing malfuction, causing the timing belt to slip and damage a couple of the valves. So we tore apart the engine, replaced the damaged valves, rebuilt the cylinder head, threw in new rod bearings and piston rings, resealed the oil pan and pump, replaced the timing components INCLUDING the VVT Cam gear (which is what we believe may have failed in the first place). After putting it all back together, the engine will turn over but won't start, due to no compression (we did a compression test and it read about 5-10 psi). We know the timing is perfect, and it's not any sensors or fuses/relays, coils, anything like that. And yes, we've tried squirting oil in the cylinders as well. So we're at a loss about what could be keeping this thing from starting. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated.
