Reading DTC's on 97 V70

Hello everybody !
I'm having some issues with my car and I'd like to read the DTCs.
Problem is that the program that seems to work best is VOL-FCR and I'm not ready to shell out 140 euros for it.
Do you have any alternatives ?

For engine codes...generic code reader will be enough...cheap Autel for example.
Vol-Fcr would give you access to every module in the car...including service light reset.

Like misha says: "For engine codes...generic code reader will be enough..." -- but only if your car returns the OBDII codes. Some Europeans cars do nowadays, though they originally didn't.

If you have Android phone, first try xiaotec "850 OBD-II" app V1.1.0 (or higher) on Google Play, along with a KWPD3B0-capable ELM327 Bluetooth device. That app can communicate with '96-'97 850 and '97-'98 S70/V70/C70/XC70 to:
a) read OBDII codes (if available on your car),
b) read codes from Motronic 4.4 (if present), MSA 15.7 (if present), auto transmission (if present), SRS, ABS, COMBI (oftentimes), Immobilizer (if present), VGLA (if present), Power Seats (if any), etc,
c) clear those codes,
d) Reset SERVICE light,
etc.

I sometimes use a ScanTool.net OBDLink LX BT with "850 OBD-II" to analyze my '98 S70 GLT.
