Are these available from dealer? I put them in place with double-sided tape but new lights would be very welcome.
They should be available at the dealer still. https://www.volvooempartsdirect.com/oem ... mp-9151343

I think they are. I believe they are part number 9151343

they are held in just by spring pressure. One end has a plastic spring. you put that end in first (with spring towards top of door), push whole assembly up towards top of door so it compresses the spring. Then push assembly into door so lower part of light is now flush with door. You then push whole assembly towards ground.

This will allow a little ridge on light to catch on edge of door slot. The whole unit will then be held in by the spring pressure.

EDIT: I just noticed bmdubya1198's post with the link to the part (and part number). The picture in bmdubya1198's link shows the plastic spring I mentioned. It's this part.

I think that is what breaks and causes light to flop around. I am pointing this out because if yours is broken, it might not look like you have one. So if you get a new light, the spring goes up towards top of door (I think).

Did it work for you? I got the aftermarket equivalent https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... -9151343-1 but it still left far too much of a gap to provide any pressure. I tried clear silicone to hold them in place, to no avail.

I picked up a simple battery/alternator tester to use on the project/donor '99 XC, and tried it out on the vehicles we currently use — a '98 V70 AT and '00 V70 MT. The older vehicle, which we've had for more than five years, checked out fine.

The '00 V70 had a low battery, which I charged fully. Next, I tested the alternator, and it gave me some bad news.

Any ideas of how long I've got to replace the alternator, or do I seek a second opinion?

I had the same issue with my driver's door. I have a good used one in there and it still moves a little bit. I bent the opening a little straighter and it holds better, but not perfect.

I have one of those too, and I'm pretty sure it shows low on my V70 too. I'd use a digital multimeter to see the actual voltage it's putting out.

If that battery sat for a while and sulphated it will pull the alternator voltage down. A voltmeter is the right tool, indeed. I’ll add it to the kit. :-)

It's not something I did on my own Volvo, but it's something that happended at work. I work parttime as a so called hiker. I deliver and pick up lease and/or rental cars and sometimes... there's real fun cars to drive. And yesterday I drove this baby

It was a Volvo V90 T4 Racing and sweet baby Jesus, sometimes it was just scary to drive (so damn FAST). I'm a tall guy (2.05 m) but it was the first time EVER I had to place the seat forward in a car. I drove for a good hour before I reached my destination and it was just lovely. And a massage function in the front seats... praise those Swedish guys.

That's a gorgeous V90. Does that mean it's a 4-cylinder turbo? I imagine I'll pick up one of those in about 16 years. If combustion engines are still allowed, that is.

Today,. I topped off the coolant in my '98 V70, which dropped from max to min ("burped") after replacing the thermostat, temperature sensor and upper radiator hose.

They're all four cylinders now. With the T5 my experience is that you can tell it is a small engine with a lot of boost. It's not delivering relaxed power as a larger engine with more cylinders does. At least not when driving a bit harder. The T4 might not have that same kick since peak power is a bit lower. It's quite a lot of car to haul around as well which should take the edge off.
