I don’ know about bs...
Most of the folks here at MVS
have just been on the planet
long enough to have lost someone
that could have been saved by a bag.

Maybe those posters are just looking out!

Let's take a different tack on posts like these moving forward, please. If someone is doing something we think isn't smart, and a previous post has pointed that out, let it go. It's their Volvo.

If it's a danger to other drivers, it's different and maybe they need a fine point on it.

You're overlooking the danger to the person in the passenger seat who'll not have the safety of the passenger airbag. These cars are designed safety wise to have functional airbags. So a girlfriend, sibling, best friend may pay the price. June

Technically all the SIPS, ETC can be removed. Not saying I'd want to do it, or would recommend doing it, but from a technical standpoint they can be removed - just like safeties on industrial equipment, furnaces, and weapons...

I wonder what the insurance company's take will be on it in the event the passenger is harmed more so than if it were functional. Whom takes responsibility for those losses? If a fatality is involved? My suggestion would be to call and ask your insurance agent as well as a criminal attorney.

This thread is knawing (sp?) on me.

A disabled airbag is not ideal and the occupants should know about it. But do you nag friends who drive cars made before say 1990? All of those are more dangerous than an 850 without airbags.

Overdoing it just turns people off and runs them out. It never affects behavior.

I hear what you're saying, and I often drive my old Dodge
pick up without giving it's lack of airbags a second thought.
( FWIW, I always use the shoulder/lap belts. Always. )

But I also get the legal liability aspect of disabling a factory
safety device. Whether the owner, passenger or anyone else
that might borrow and drive the car cares or not, in this day
and age, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm Just Sayin'...

BTW - "Gnawing".

I told him how to deal with the DTC created by an active SRS. If he did it as I told him to, the rest of the SRS is still active. The driver's side air bag being the only one disabled. Therefore only the only driver is subjected to a heightened risk.

In short: He ask how to delete the airbag system, instead I told him how to quite an active SRS.
