'04 V70 "Try slow down - shift up " message

Just bought a "new to me" '04 V70 110K miles. Driving it home, when I got to operating speed the message above appeared. It went into limp home and would barely exceed 20 mph. I went to post the problem, and the first thing that came up was a post of my own concerning my previous V70, about 4 years ago. It described the same problem, how could I have forgotten it? The solution then was 2 new ignition coils. This time the solution was 1 new coil. Did have it scanned and it came up with misfire cylinder #1. Replaced that coil and every thing is fine, message gone and it operates normally. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for sharing. How was the engine running, did it felt like shaking, with some noise ? Or it went to limp mode all of a sudden?

"did it felt like shaking, with some noise ?" No noise, no shaking, just into limp mode. As I referenced, this happened on my prior '04 V70, about 4 years ago. It was operating normally, but I lost the key. The dealer was gracious enough to give me an appointment 9 days hence for a new key. I had it flat bedded there and a new key was made, with reprogramming. As I left the dealer it immediately fell into limp mode. I returned and dealer denied all responsibility. I got it somewhere and had codes pulled, that indicated misfires in two cylinders. I replaced those coils and wall was fine.

I have a 2003 V70
I have a Bosch code reader a friend loaned me that has an app that installs on a mobile phone that let you read the codes via Bluetooth. It told me I had a cylinder 1 misfire. I bought a $20 coil online to see if that would solve my problem and it did. I went ahead and ordered the other four so I had all new coils replaced at the same time and also put new pre-gapped spark plugs in there while I had the coils off.
