And I highly doubt the relay is the culprit. A dead fuel pump relay will usually result in a no-start.

As I was reminded this week, fuel pumps usually go no-start as well. They just die, they don't get weak.

I cannot help but think that the car is running in a open loop mode while cold then it shifts over to closed loop and doesn't get the data it needs to run in closed loop mode with sensors. I checked all the connectors, cleaned many - have a friend with a junk yard so I will pull an ignition switch, coil, cam sensor... anything else???

I think we have had 4-5 documented COLd weather intermittent run/ starts solved my fuel pump relays this fall??

Is that right? Interesting... I figured that was something that either worked or it didn't.

I had a KAE relay work fine cold, but as soon as the engine heated up it would misfire. Brand new Volvo relay fixed the issue. These things seem to defy logic.

My KAE relay failed completely after a few months. Always use an original Volvo relay!

So I wenr another round yesterday. Car wouldnt start this time. Hooked a spark plug to the coil and sparks a little intermittently then no spark. Checked codes and sensors, when turning over it reads the RPMs so that means the crank sensor is working, right? Reads the correct temperature. I see lors of ECU issues on ‘99s and videos on how to remove theit ECUs but there isn’t one video or writeup on how to access a ‘98 with the strap across the top of the box. Just wanted to clean the connectors which makes me think there isn’t much issues with the 98 ECUs. Fair assumption? I jumper the fuel relay to no change. Thoughts?
