Car just threw 15 codes Topic is solved

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Car just threw 15 codes

Post by Stark77 »

Was driving back from a work function tonight. It's been raining heavily the last 2 days here, so maybe some water got splashed in an area it shouldn't? But, here's my list of codes - they're plentiful!
bcm-e000
bcm-0100
ddm-002b
cem-1a59
cem-1a5f
cem-1a62
ecm-e000
ecm-9400
ecm-928c
ecm-3503
ecm-3543
ecm-3553

I noticed about halfway into the drive that the engine started sounding rough and throaty on acceleration, then I noticed a vibration. The first thing I thought was "misfire" as it had that sound and feel. A few minutes later, the check engine light flashed for just a few seconds and then turned back off. I don't think the car went into "limp mode" as I could still accelerate, but very slowly. I parked it inside tonight in hopes that this is just some water that got into an area it shouldn't have. It seems highly unlikely that *all* of these electronic systems would fail at once. Any suggestions?

Problem solved! Tossed on 2 different coils for the affected cylinders and loaded up on the dielectric grease. Replacement set for all 5 arrives tomorrow and I’ll do plugs, too.

Yes, sir! I've got 3 more coils and plugs to install this weekend - also got my 18x8 pegasus wheels in and tires mounted. Hoping to sand those down and refinish in the next few weeks. S80 is coming along nicely!

Happy to oblige! I've attached two pictures to this post (hopefully did that right!). I've also switched all of my interior bulbs out with canbus-compliant LED bulbs - huge difference in appearance and function. I've also replaced the H7 low-beam headlight bulbs with LED bulbs that have chips on all 4 sides of the bulbs. The light output is impressive and works with stock reflectors really well, provided that the beams are re-aimed to a lower point. I've got the canbus resistors attached, but need to drill a few holes in the back of the bulb cover to mount the resistors and heat sink to.

Ignition coil and spark plug replacement were wonderfully easy, I've had some V8's that were a major pain in the rear to do, but this car is great to work on, so far!

Looks good! I think the Pegasus wheels will work better on your S80 if they are a tad darker (anthracite / gunmetal). I like the facelift grill, looks better than the prefacelift grille imho.

I'm currently using H7r HIDs and they work better than LEDs imho, I also tried LED, but the light image was awful in my opinion. When I put in halogen, set them to the correct level & put in H7r, I noticed I only need to lower the light image a tad when using these H7r bulbs.

Tip: do the shunt mod, will save you a lot of hassle with resistors etc. I just tried it myself and it works > http://www.xenonvalot.com/xenonfixvolvo.html

Wow - I just went through all 3 pages, very solid work! You've got a lot of wrenching experience, by now, on these cars! I've got to pull a door panel (rear passenger) to find a clip for the courtesy light that dropped behind the panel while replacing the incadescent bulbs w canbus compliant LED bulbs - looks like you've got lots of experience with that!
Last night, sanded the curb rash on the wheels with 80 grit sandpaper and removed all gouges and upraised areas on the rims. Tonight, spraying high-fill/sandable black primer and then this weekend going to hit the wheels with the "hyper silver" paint and then clear coat. Should be low humidity and good spray weather.

It has also become a hobby of mine. Good luck with the wheel refurb :)

Respect that you took the time to look through all pages!

Absolutely, I wish there were more folks that documented repairs and upgrades like that! I need to get a thread going up for my vehicle and the progress - lots of work done this weekend.
