I'm breaking away from my other engine replacement threads to specifically address the topic of transmission mounts.
I bought the Hutchinson set of engine/transmission mounts when I first got the car, so I'm going to put them all in with the 'new' engine. They all look rather straight forward, except for the rear transmission mount. The mount itself looks identical to the front engine mount, but I am not sure what is the best way to remove it. On the bottom it appears to be mounted to the steering rack, and I just can't see a straight shot at that nut from below. There are a couple of rigid hoses in the way, they don't want to move at all. Removing the front subframe has crossed my mind. Is that pretty much the way to go, or am I missing something?
Rear transmission mount replacement Topic is solved

Thanks for the quick response and an informative link. Some days I feel like I excel at Internet searching, and other days I feel like I've forgotten everything I've ever known. I will admit that Youtube is hardly my first choice for research. FCPEuro video tutorials are top notch, but there are too many useless videos on YouTube. Unlike text posts, sometimes you have to watch halfway through a 10 minute video to realize it's not covering the specific aspect I am researching.
Speaking of part vendors with good tutorials, I forgot that Pelican sometimes has pretty good write ups.

Just watched through the video. I was completely surprised he managed to sneak that extension and socket between the subframe and the swaybar. I'll have to try that when I get home tonight. That gap looked really tight when I was looking yesterday evening.

The first thing I do with such questions is check on Youtube, but I agree, a lot of the times you'll see useless vids. A couple are worth mentioning, like FCP Euro. The other 2 Volvo related:

I'm with you on videos, there is way too much chaff in them usually. I'll confess I like Roberts because I love that slow Southern style...
We try to reference jobs by part number so they are searchable , and then folks who have done the job can post those tips that make it work
VIDA tells you to pry the sway bar out of the way to access the bolts to the engine mount.

Robert is one of the YouTube saints. Humble, kind, detailed, informative. I'm glad there are guys like him out there to make up for all the Scotty Kilmers. There is a Subaru guy named Mike who's got quite a few videos, and the one on engine rebuild helped me keep my sanity when I went down that rabbit hole.
My first reaction was "wait, that's a straight rod between the bushings, how do you pry that without loosening the bushing?!". Then I looked a the diagrams and realized there is a bend in the middle, so prying it away totally makes sense! That was a very small but extremely useful tidbit of information, abscate!

I prefer rubbing my eyes with a cheese grater than listening to Scotty....

I pried the sway bar away and also removed the aluminum bracket that the mount is bolted to so I had more room.
I do remember that being the most difficult of the 4. Ratcheting wrenches make the job much easier too.

You must mean the bracket between the top of the mount and transmission housing? Because I'm pretty sure the bottom of the mount bolts on to the steering rack.
The ratcheting wrenches are a godsend! I have the HF set with swiveling heads, but I'm thinking about getting the set without swivel so I can have a ratcheting 8mm. There are a lot of 8mm bolts out there.
