UPDATE/EDIT: Short story is that you need 9480189 if your chassis is AFTER 566268 or 8631698 if your chassis is BEFORE 566268. There seems to be no cheap aftermarket version of 9480189, so you'll have to go OEM on that one. If you look at the photos below, you will see that the upper mounting holes are offset about 3/8" to the side, and that appears to be the only difference. Note the triangular shapes on either side of the upper mounting holes to see the visible difference between the two different mounts. This change seems to coincide with the introduction of the code RN engine when the S80 was introduced. RN had a number of revisions including the variable exhaust valve timing, coil in plug and fly by wire throttle control.
Final note: If your car is AWD, there are yet OTHER mounts that include a spacer that raises the mount.
Original Posting:
I have a '99 S70 T5. FCP are telling me that I must buy a 948019 right front engine mount for my car based upon the actual VIN number. This is a correct # based upon Volvo parts lists, but I'm not sure what the difference is between this part and parts like the Rein 8631698. Is it uprated for T5 power? Is it related to wheel/tire diameter? My car is NOT all wheel drive. (I know those at least have a spacer.)
I am half-convinced that I should go with the OEM Volvo part anyway, but I'd be interested to hear from people who have worked with both parts. Are these two parts interchangeable, or not?

EDIT: Adding photos. If you look closely at the upper bolt hole area, you can see the difference between the early engine mount and the later one.

The Volvo part is way more expensive. However, if you plan to keep the car, then I'd go that route. A lot of the cheaper aftermarket ones can separate between the rubber and metal part within a few months. Having said that some of the parts sold by Volvo are no longer made by the original manufacturer and who knows if they are as good?
There was a change in the mount around 98/99. It is hard to see but some pictures on line may make it more obvious.
Neil.

Well, I guess I will go out and jack up the car when I can and actually inspect the ones in the cars (I have two P80s). They talk about lifting the engine to see if the pad is connected, but I would think that you'd want to take those top two bolts out before lifting. Otherwise, it might pull the pad off of the base.scot850 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2019, 11:45 The Volvo part is way more expensive. However, if you plan to keep the car, then I'd go that route. The engine-mounted torque bushing mounted to the top of the engine is shot on both of my cars. I ordered the later version of that part thinking that it might be an improvement over the older one. I am wondering if the change they made to the front mout we are talking about would have been to make it more less prone to failure? That begs the question of whether or not a '99 mount would fit a '98 car? It doesn't seem as if there would have been any change in geometry about engine location or engine block casting between 98 and 99.
I've seen the Volvo '99 mount for $103-108 plus shipping.

Look at those model/engine combinations it does/doesn't fit. Does that make sense to you?

The motor mount did indeed change somewhere in the s70 timeline.
see my experience here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=85673
short story: you need 9480189 if your chassis is AFTER 566268
Note. it is not specific to the T5. Mine is a non-turbo but has chassis number 599XXX so I needed mount number 9480189 as well

It's specific to the RN motor. We swapped an '01 RN motor into the wife's '97 GLT and needed to use the -189 mount.
The difference is the fore/aft offset of the tab that bolts to the engine. The lower portion is the same between the two.

Is there value documenting the dimensions on my these engine mounts so we can measure our cars before we order or is the application and fitment are clear?
