I've never been a big fan of spacers to move the wheels outboard. Kind of reminds me of all the racer wanna-be types running wheels with the wrong offset. At the extreme it's goofy looking and puts stress on the suspension components. I guess the 5mm JRL's suggesting would not be too pronounced. Could be a better alternative than putting up with the 43 ft turning radius.JRL wrote:Try the spacers first (5mm)dkretzer wrote:As JRL stated there appear to be different stops for wider rims. My only experience with this is my own '02 T5 w/ original 17s which as described, couldn't turn around in New York Harbor without the aid of a pilot boat. It turns like my friend's R. So, if your car was not factory equipped with these rims and tires you may want to seek out those stops.
I have them on my 06R, 18" wheels AND lowered, NO RUBBING!
Tire rub on full-lock - spacers?

Thanks JRL, I'll order up a set. The H&R TRAK ones look good, any other recommendations?
Oh, and just to be sure I'm not dumb, I'd want to space all 4 wheels correct?

You don't even notice 5mm but it's enough to stop the rubbing.dkretzer wrote:I've never been a big fan of spacers to move the wheels outboard. You need 20mm spacers to notice anything diferent
5mm is about 1/4"

My 01 T5 has the Almatheas, and I switched to 225/45/17 tires which lessened the rub until I replaced my worn tires. the actual tire shoulder must be smaller than the previous NO more rub..

I've considered slimmer tires, except these are pretty much still brand new...

My '02 T5 also has the Amalthea wheels with Pirelli P6 235 45 17s with no rubbing but a very wide turning circle. I'm the second owner but bought the car with the original V rated tires. (now running the same tire but way better priced and longer lasting H rated version) It's the original set up (tire size on fuel filler door) so I'm guessing that my car had to be factory fitted with the R stops?

My T5 has new wheels.... mostly due to the fact that they are losing air where the metal is corroding under the chrome so I will fix the Almathea's and set them aside, unless someone shows an interest?
