'96 850 Brake Problems

Problem occurs when at a stop (both in Drive and in Park), and also when moving (at both high and low speeds). Problem is intermittent, comes and goes seemingly whenever it wants.

- When the brake pedal is depressed, a clicking noise is heard from the center console (Shift Solenoid maybe?)
- When the brake pedal is depressed, Bulb Out Indicator illuminates on dash
- When the brake pedal is depressed, left brake light does not illuminate

Bulb is good, brakes are new. Not sure what is causing this problem. When the problem goes away, brake lights all illuminate, no clicking noise, and Bulb Light on dash does not illuminate. Automatic Transmission, vehicle has 175K on it.

Any ideas or leads would be appreciated

Bulb Out work by detecting a current imbalance between left and right.
Sound to me like you have a intermittent short (not open) in the Left Brake light circuit.
I would start with inspecting the Left bulb socket them work my way back along the wiring harness until I found the defect.

Sometimes the plastic wall on the socket that separates the positive and negative leads gets worn out.

did you replace left and right bulbs or just one side? An older bulb may draw more current and cause the bulb out routine to light up.
