2004 S60 Low creaking sound

Post by StickyPocket » Wed Jan 30, 2019 3:32 pm

Hi all,

I noticed a slight creaking sound when i turn the wheel almost all the way to the right when trying to get out of a parallel parking spot. It happens as I turn the wheel while stationary, just before i get to the right wheel lock. Is it just some lubrication needed? Or something more serious like control arm / bushings? I recently replaced the power steering reservoir due to a leak, so it has new fluid in there. The sound has been happening since before that was changed, and is still happening. 64k miles

Most likely your knees. It is cold out.

Many times what you mention is the bearing on the steering column just before it goes through the fire wall. Try hitting it with some spray and see if it eliminates the noise.

If it is an external sound check your strut mounts.

The stops on the lower control arms can make that noise too. when full turn is reached on the outside wheel (one turned into wheel opening at front) there is apart on the lower control arm that acts as the travel limter. It should have plastic over a metal bar. The plastic can break away and the metal to metal noise results.
