What is the recommended replacement for the T5? Seen several threads on here with so many different answers, with the only real reoccurring comment being the gap - 0.028" iirc.

Car is on 185k and does sound 15k a year, so presume platinums are better then copper in this scenarios? Would the Denso pk20pr-p8 be suitable? Or should I be looking at the NGK BKR7EVX which according to SKANDIX at least are the OEM?
I've had good luck with Bosch Coppers, which are recommended on Volvospeed. I believe they are FR7DC. No need to spend extra money on iridium or platinum. I'm much happier with how my V70 runs on the coppers than the platinums that were in there.
I've always been a bit confused with what are the proper spark plugs for the T5. I see lots of recommendations for Bosch coppers gapped to 0.028", but the manual states the gap for turbos is 0.030":
Distributor ignition system

Firing order 1-2-4-5-3
Distributor ignition setting Not adjustable
Spark plugs Bosch FR 7 DC or Champion RC9YC
Spark plug gap 0.028" (0.7 mm)
Turbo-charged models: Champion RC8PYP (or equivalent)
Spark plug gap 0.03" (0.75 mm)
Tightening torque 18.4 ft. lbs. +/- 3.7 ft. lbs. (25 Nm +/- 5 Nm)
Champion RC8PYP cross references to Bosch FR7DP which are the plugs currently in my T5, running happy.

Why does everyone recommend a gap of 0.028" regardless if turbo or NA? I've never seen anyone actually explain this. Is the manual wrong?

It seems both the NGK BKR7EVX and Denso PK20PR-P8 also cross reference the Champion RC8PYP (which is now unavailable in the UK), so in theory as long as correctly gapped either those or the Bosch FR7DP would appear to be suitable? If so I guess the recommended spark plug is then just the cheapest!

Very interesting regarding the gap, that's an excellent query.

Yes, but if I go to Volvo (60 mile trip) they'll charge me £55 for spark plugs. Now if those spark plugs are Champion RC8PYPs, then I can buy those for £30 delivered. If we're talking compatible spark plugs like the FR7DP, then I can get those for £20 delivered. The equivalents from NGK would cost me £12. Potentially significant savings to be had here, especially if they all perform equally due to having the same composition and same core thickness equating to the same ohm resistance and temperatures. Hence the dilemma, and the query.

Fair enough. Over here there really isn't that much of a price difference, not enough to make up for looking around when it's only a 60' km replacement.
