87 240 - SAVE me from the Boneyard!

Post by Harry von Zell »

Update, on my "unsolvabe" problem of violent "bucking" when running with Hot engine.

Replaced the Temp Sensor, tightened manifold, repaired 2 small air leaks found BEFORE the AMM with a propane test, and thoroughly cleaned throttle.

Tested it out and everything seemed OK.

Took a 100 mi. trip fro Thanksgiving and at about the 40 mi mark. BUCKING stars again ,in spades. It's like a car running out of gas, violent "choking-out_ et......so dang frustrating....

Oh, VERY BAD mileage on trip. Gotta be running RICH. Also has high NOX

I'm now thinking sensors? electrical? computer?

To date things done...

Tightened manifold
temp sensor
tested for air leaks
cleaned throttle
Rotor
Wires
Plugs
AAM
Fuel Filter
CAT
25 amp engine fuse
In-tank Fuel Pump
Fuel Pump
Fuel Sensor(the module above the passenger side leg space.)

VERY HIGH Nox, and chocking/bucking only on HOT engine......
Thanks to all and keep the ideas coming!

Best, Harry

It's possible you have a bad fuel pressure regulator. If you can put a fuel pressure gauge on it when it has the running problem, you'll find out. The pressure should be 30-35 psi I believe. If the regulator is bad, the pressure will jump to well over 60 psi.

Also, check the connector to the MAF sensor (AAM). The terminals get spread apart and make a bad connection, and they get corroded. Use die-electric grease on the terminals.

Make sure the wire terminal on terminal 15 of the coil is not loose. On some of these they get real loose and cause ignition problems.

Good Luck,

B

No Mas!, NO MAS!

Boneyard bound.... The violent, unsolved "Bucking" has caused a Tranny Leak. No Mas!

Oh, and I just picked up a sweet 98 V90.

Thanks to all who tried to help, my guess it's now a computer problem.

I've listed it on Craig's list (Rhode Island) as a "parts car". If anyone's interested, here's the link:
