No boost
No boost
Soo I noticed the other day a lack of power and my boost gauge needle only goes about a quarter inch into the yellow now whereas before it would go into the middle. I checked the valve that bolts onto the turbo and it doesn't hold pressure- not even the pressure you would use to blow bubbles with. Could that have something to do with the lack of power?? I hope not because there doesnt seem to be a replacement available for such a part unless you buy it with a slightly more expensive turbocharger attached to it.
where do the people who sell remanned turbos get them?
Am i supposed to be asking these questions?

You need a bypass valve diaphragm for the td03 or 4. If you look around you cn find one cheaper (not from volvo) bit IPDs is 25 plus ship. rumored to rot after 3 years.

Looks like there where 5 different turbochargers for the 1989 740 with a B230FT. Two Garret and three Mitsubishi. Which one do you have?

great interactive diagrams. I would be thinking about swapping in another compressor housing from the newer TDO4-13 on the 940
and many others with same size turbine, or swap in a complete 15g from an 850 v70 s60 for more boost. However this might not be the only problem with your turbo, even with a leaking diaphragm the bypass spring should keep it closed for maby 5lbs boost. The seal area doesn't rip I think. You just dont have the manifold boost pressure pushing on the diaphragm helping the spring to seal the bypass.
