Replaced the Front rotors on my 04 XC70 this weekends. Rotors and pads up front, pretty straight forward typical brake job. Calipers and hoses in decent shape, cleaned up the pad slide are, regreased the caliper slider pins, installed rotors, slowly compressed pistons, installed pads and put it all back together. The inside of the pad box had a break in procedure which i followed. Accelerate to 40mph and aggressively slow to 10mph and repeat a few times. During this procedure my Brake Failure Stop Safely light came on and has been on since. I tried my scanner to reset Brake thing but it said my car was noncompatible or something like that. So theres that issue.
On top of that I think I found out why my right front wheel tends to trigger ABS frequently without needing to. The rings on the cv joint is split from corrosion. I hated the idea of replacing a good OE axle just for a ring so i looked for a ring replacement option and it exists, so I ordered just the ring off ebay for shots and giggles to try and replace it before resorting to an entire front right axle assembly.
This was all perfect for my trip to Ski Slopes last night,AWD stops working, ABS stops working, brake failure lights on, we hit blizzard conditions on 79 North towards Erie. And then my headlights decide they are going to start aiming at the ground again. (HID)
My Volvo saga continues..Brakes

Fluid level at the reservoir close to min?
Triggered ABS too often may be a faulty ABS sensor (often times caused by a slightly stretched wire, when removing a sensor pry up from underneath with a flat screw driver)

Tried changing the ABS ring on front right axle yesterday. Couldn't get the shaft out of the hub. Splines seized solid. I just had it out easily a couple years ago too when i changed bevel gear

You need to grease the Hades out of the splines, install the inner grease seal in salty climates;and use a new bolt on the axle
A good tone ring will solve those problems. Worst case, take shaft to a press

I drew up a hud tool yesterday to cut on the plasma table. It will bolt down with lugs, and has a 1" bolt in center to press axle out than i can hammer on. Its made to fit 5x100 up to 5x115 bolt patterns

Got that tone ring changed today lol. Yesterday I made another attempt at it since im driving to gulf coast this weekend. I had a new propane torch, one if the 500,000 btu ones that shoots a 3" round flame 5ft
So I warmed it up again. Axle still wouldn't budge. Checked local salvage yard to make sure they had replacements and they did. So now the gloves were off. I took off the whole knuckle and axle together heated it up until the hub was glowing red hot and used a sledge hammer and wrist pin to knock the axle out. The abs tone ring just slid right off at that point lol.
So today I drove over to All Foriegn a block from my office and picked up a used knuckle and axle. The knuckle came with a hub, ball joint and abs sensor all intact and good condition.
Assembly at home was going smooth until I found the ball joints were different. So i thought I'd just swap them but the hole in casting was bigger too. (Just checked, they sold me an 09 S60 knuckle. Computer call them a match but they arenr. The ball joint and casting for ball joint was different. The rest seemed to be the same including hub. Ball joint on S60 had bigger taper and no aluminum cone washer.) So i had to swap hub into old knuckle. Eventually it all worked out. And only set me back $60 for knuckle and axle. And I had an extra abs sensor which I ended up needing on the left side. Now there's no more ABS light and all is right again.

When these things get stuck they really need a press. Plan on that contingency when doing any hub work
