Hmmm - car is away at indie getting keys made - but I just noticed something

On my 1999 V70 the light switch function order is

ON- DOOR- OFF

The 10/22 diagram above shows order as DOOR OFF ON

I wonder if the switch had a VIN change on it ?

It's actually DOOR ZERO position, not DOOR. I gues that confuses you.

The top switch in the diagram has three positions , DOOR -OFF -ON

My car switch has three positions. ON DOOR OFF

It is customary to accurately represent the switch function in an electrical diagram, so one of these isn’t right, tbd.

In any case, a continuity test to terminal 7 on the dome light plug to ground will tell me if I’ve got a ground switch closed when all the doors are open, the most simple failure here.

Stay tuned

An electrical schematic is a logical representation of the physical connections and layout of an electric circuit.

Accurately represent the switch Electrical functions - Yes
Accurately represent the switch Mechanical functions - Yes.
Accurately represent the switch Mechanical layout - No.

Its interesting that the 'failure mode of the switch' exactly matches that of the switch mechanical layout in the electrical diagram - with the labelled switch functions of DOOR and ON reversed.

I doubt this is a failure deeper than this.

Steve -- As you may or may not recall, the driver door was changed on that car. I don't know if that had the potential to muck up the dome light?

That doesn't matter if door lock actuator works as it should.

Evan is on point here. If the connector was fubar, the door would close, the circuit would see the normally open connection, and the light would stay on in the DOOR position.

Junkyard! Or fellow MVS parts-hoarders. Replace the switch panel! This could have (possibly) been fixed by now ...
