Let's see...for 90K miles this is what you're in for according the the scheduled maintenance:
Replace oil and filter ($40-50 at dealer)
Replace air filter ($30 at dealer)
Replace spark plugs ((probably a $50 job at the dealer)
Inspect PCV nipple and clean if needed (I would replace it if it's never been done). (Cleaning is a 30 minute job- replacement is a 3-4 hour job with parts costing $200+ at the dealer)
Inspect battery (10 minute job, they probably charge half an hour at dealer)
Inspect brake pads, replace components as needed (30 mins to check, up to 2 hour job rating if replaced and $300+ parts at dealer)
Inspect brake fluid and replace if it's been 2 years or 30K miles (10 minute job, probably rated at 1/2 hour...Volvo brake fluid- 1 liter probably costs $25 and rated at at least a 1 hour job at dealer).
Inspect tires, check pressure and wear condition (5 minute job- they might throw this one in).
Check power steering fluid (also a 5 minute job. If it's replaced, rated at 1 hour at least and probably $1`0-15 for the fluid)
Lube trunk/hood hinges and latches (probably 30 minute rated job- cost of lube is not significant)
Replace Cabin Air filter (probably a 30 minute rated job. Filter is probably $30-35 at the dealer)
Let me add that if it's never been done, also have a full transmission fluid flush and if it's been 2 years flush and replace the coolant. (at the dealer, the tranny fluid will be almost $20 a quart- and it will take 12-14 quarts and probably rated as a 1 hour job. The coolant is probably $20 at the dealer and this is probably rated as a 1 hour job).
The dealer could try to do more than the above and charge you for it...so if you're getting all of this done at the dealer, I would ask before they start and get a price quote as well. My number may be off some but they will try to take you for all they can get. Remember that they're rates are typically $100+ an hour.
This site has write-ups on all or almost all of the procedures listed above, or if they aren't written, someone here can help you get it done. Prices of parts are much cheaper through www.fcpgroton.com or eeuroparts.com where from $39 and up shipping is free.
The expensive Volvo transmission fluid is the same as Mobil-3309 ATF and it can be bought for about $50 for a case of 12 quarts. The procedure for flushing your tranny takes 30 minutes and easily and cheaply assembled parts and tools.
If you choose to do all of the work yourself, you can save a ton. If you are not going to do the work, get a good independent mechanic who is familiar with Volvo's do the work. Personally I've avoided the dealer for any of my work except what has been covered under warranty.
Good luck and let us know what you do.

wow! so probably in the range of $1000-$1500? including labor... hmmmm... yes i'll definitely insist on estimate and hope some is covered under warranty.
i wouldn't know how to do any of that work myself, and if Volvo's estimate is too high, I will get second estimate from a local (and reputable) foreign auto mechanic. But, even though most people around my cmnty have high praise for this mechanic, the one time I had him change a brake light, he didn't put in a Volvo bulb, and the light intensity was drastically brighter than the other brake light with volvo bulb... and his bulb blew out shortly after... that was annoying and another inconvenience.

If they just replace the essentials (first list) and don't have to change out brake pads, do a flush, etc. then I would say this service is probably $350-500 but if they have to get into everything then what you say is probably closer to actual. Still, I would look around for a good independent Volvo mechanic who is reputable. Evidently you didn't find him last time.

Everyone done?
This usually a $600-$750 dealer job if nothing extra (brakes, etc) is needed

Thanks Jim,
A lot more than what I would have thought for the basics.
