Thanks! Did some work on the 850

Just wanted to say thanks to Matt and Protroast who put in a few good tips for my 850 repairs.

I had a chattering when the A/C compressor was on - I actually ordered the pulleys for $80 and then the chattering stopped. Guess I should have waited longer (just bought the car, I guess it just needed to run a bit)

I also had some burnt out bulbs in the center (floor) console, basically all of them and at night could not even see what gear I was in...got out the console and the bulbs but of course none in my area and I didn't want to wait a week for the order. I just soldered new bulbs onto the Volvo housings, hopefully the solder will not rattle loose. Those bulbs are $8.50 by the way, would have been $~35 bucks if I had ordered them! Yikes...

Car did not have floormats, I got some for about $70, look pretty nice. No cupholders was just something I could not accept, so I bought them from the same company, flip down 'hidden' type.

Still waiting for my Kleen wheels, those front brakes are horrible on the front wheels - I've got the 24-hole alloys and they are a pain in the rump to clean.

Great car for me to drive to work! I need to work on my other cars some and this is a great substitute, plus a good family car.

I'll see if I can post a pic for you soon. Anyone want to buy some pulleys?

Chalk up another win for the good guys. :-)

Every time I look at a Honda Element (or whatever's passing that has tons of interior volume, good fuel economy etc.), I'll look at the thickness of my 850's doors and just forget the other car.

Good to hear you solved your problems!

Just curious .. I hate the ones in the center console. It's just a good place to fry the electronics when a spill happens.

Definitely! I've got a 94 850 with those alloys, and it's a genuine PITA!!!

I *like* the center controls for windows, mirrors. I've never spilled (maybe that's why I still like the layout).

I drive with my left hand on the wheel naturally. That leaves my right to operate radio/windows/mirrors/shift/climate/sunroof/help steer.

I drive my wife's 2000 Civic occasionally and feel that controls are all over the place... it's a decentralized mess, IMHO.
