On my 98 I just heated it up with a propane torch, melted the rubber and scraped it off with a knife. Probably not the prettiest solution, but it was very easy, excapt for removing it from the car. Installed a PU bushing afterwards.

I have the old poly mount out, and I'm about to press in the new OEM rubber one. I know the arrows are supposed to point up, but one side is up, the other is down. Since the bolt bushing is slightly offset from center, is it supposed to be more to the front of the car, or more towards the firewall?

I think it's more towards the firewall, but want to verify before I start installing.

cn90 usually gets these minutiae right when he reads all the pre-existing DIYs and then collects the info into one very useful post, e.g. viewtopic.php?t=53200. That one says "Note arrow points to the top, large bump to the front, small bump to the rear."

Man, I SUCK at searching... I'm sorry, I completely overlooked this earlier.

I got it in using the pipe flange method, but it's not perfectly centered because the mount is just a bit wider than the holder. Because of this, the mount bottomed out on the flange on the opposite side. I suppose I could have used the PVC coupler method and gone another 1/8" or 1/16" in, but I just left it.

Thanks again guys, now ALL the mounts are back to perfect, original style mounts.

Off to replace the headlights now!

Finally got a picture of what I was describing above...

As you can see, the bushing is not completely centered. The left side is flush with the holder, and the right side is not fully seated. I could get a spacer for the left side and push it a bit more to center it up, but is that really necessary?

Put a sharpie mark on it and watch it for movement, but I would run that.
