No spray from left side windshield washer nozzle (98 S70 T5)

Post by Ghassan »

Hi Guys,

Frequently in cold weather, the left side windshield washer nozzle (driver's side) does not spray any fluid. The other nozzles including the headlamp nozzles spray normally.

What type of problem is this that it is only observed in cold weather?

Thanks

I know it sounds stupid - but could it just simply be freezing? The blue stuff WILL freeze - in the summer its suggested you mix it 50/50, and the winter use the straight fluid (straight mix has a lower freezing point than water). Perhaps that line is more exposed to cold air than the rest. I know it sounds silly that one will work and another wont, but if there is a draft thats blowing right on that line it could freeze the fluid in the line stopping its flow and not affect the others. It happened to me once. Are you using straight washer mix or cutting it 50/50? May want to try draining all the fluid and replacing with one of those washer fluids that contain anti-freeze.

Open hood...lift off the felt backing and inspect the hose. Often times, where the "T" is that splits the hose to left and right, it clogs. Take apart, blow it out and you should be good to go if it's clogged. Another thing that happens is that one sprayer can get clogged, especially if you wax the car. Use a needle and insert it into the sprayer nozzle carefully to unclog. Good luck.
