Personally, I'd sell the thing to junk yard for about $400.

Spend $4K-$K and buy a "new" 2004-2007 S60 or V70, the P2 is nice.
I bought my 2004 V70 with 100K miles (driven by an old lady) for $4000 a year ago.
Great car. Easy to repair. Nothing major yet.

Sorry, I was the jerk out of line for bringing up the relationship between you and friend. That’s your business , of course.

We all have to accept the risk that one of our fine machines can throw a rod without warning, we are lucky this is very rare on these engines.

He is in Pennsylvania, maybe he will sell it to you or maybe barter for something that is running.

Hahaha I got a laugh out of that one. I have a special love for this car as I’m sure most of you do for yours. Let’s just say I won’t be getting rid of it any time soon. It will ride again, better and faster.

You've overlooked a key fact in the very first post: there was no oil on the dipstick when it went.
Buzz! "say it had died on his way home and there was no oil on the dipstick."

It died and then they discovered there was no oil on the dipstick. No oil on the dipstick is a result of the incident, not the cause of the incident.
Oops, my mistake, I didn't read far enough down the post ...

I still haven’t found my favorite spinner video of a blown case on a car with a great James Earl Jones voiceover in the background

speaking of Spinner and removing the pan, Is it really necessary to deface the undercarriage with a three pound maul like he does claiming thats what volvo tech would do in his video? I doubt a volvo tech would even own a three lb hammer. I assume if the undercarriage is dropped some amount that wouldn't be necessary?

Most people bend that tab on the subframe, if that's what you're talking about, but read the forum accounts there are various approaches maybe you can get it done without bending, probably bending is the easiest though.

Why does that tab even exist? Could you just grind it off?
