99 V70 AWD CV Joint failing even with boots intact

Post by deardeergod »

I've had a grinding sound in the passenger CV joint at full lock for awhile now, I never bothered with it.

More recently I've developed a shudder at 45-55 mph when I'm on the gas, and an occasional "baseball card in the spokes" sound that modulates with speed.

Wheel bearing feels great and the CV boots look perfect, no cracks or tears. Is it possible the CV joint is failing and needs to be replaced or could another component be at fault?

how did you identify the pass side? Its nearly impossible to tell where the sound is coming from usually unless really bad. I think you should remove the pass tire and check the breaks and bearing again. if they're good I think its your rear driveshaft as probable problem. I haven't seen a cv grind with no grease loss. shimmy maybe, but no noise.
