The hood on this car is in sad shape, a lot of oxidation, spots from birdpoop and scratches. After taking a closer look I was doubtful if it was salvageable.
So tonight I took my orbital polisher out, and installed a mildly aggressive pad with mild polishing compound. The result is pretty dramatic as you can see in the photo.
Not perfect, there are a lot of areas where I have to fill in, but at least the shine is coming back.

I am exited about this! :D

Get a quote from Evans paint guy for a rework. I’ll keep my eyes open for a PnP hood in 417, right?

Dirk..I’ve got Marks parts from a Evan in Albany, will reach out to you if I can’t find his contact info

No paintwork needed at this point. But if you come across a pristine hood, I'm all ears.

Some sort of heat rising from a seat facing the wrong way - what can it be?

Today I was able to spend some time in the garage and work on the S70, fun times. I was almost able to finish polishing the hood, but I ran out of polishing pads. The result is still pretty good. I will give it another try when I have new pads, plus the rest of the car needs to be done as well.
While I was at it, I spruced up the front end with a new grille, new license plate bracket and new headlight wipers. Here are the before and after shots.
Before:

After:

Then I started cleaning the engine compartment, plus I took the timing belt cover off to see what I got. I also needed the engine serial number so I can order the right parts.
I was a little surprised to see no timing marks, I will have to do some research on how this will work. Each sprocket has an "M" stamped into it, does that have anything to do with setting the timing?

Finally I jacked up the car and pulled the wheels off. The Lindong tires with a date code of 2012 and dry rotting are not very confidence inspiring. And who knows, maybe they are responsible for that vibration I was experiencing. Then I found some colorful suspension bits. Somebody spend quite a few bucks on this setup, it handles very nicely:

Also saw some very crusty brakes:

Time to put another order into FCP :)

Wow, she cleaned up really nice. That blue is beautiful. And nice Koni suspension, I do like those good surprises.

These clutches are bullet proof, I had six learn in mine and it’s still original
These Volvo clutches are insane. 270k mi on mine, still mint. Only clutches I've ever seen with more miles on 'em were in long-haul trucks. Seriously, I don't think any car manufacturer designs clutches to last more than 100k.
A buddy of mine had an 88 Honda Accord with 400.000 miles or so on it, and it was the original clutch as far as we knew...

I bought an egg crate for my 850, then learned it doesn't fit them as I tried to mount it. :o
