2004 S60 - Jumping another car Topic is solved

How would you jump another car from the engine compartment? The manual speaks to how one would jump your car (the Volvo) using the engine compartment but but doesn't provide guidance on jumping another persons car. Is there a negative terminal in the engine compartment?

For ground, I guess you can use the top of the upper engine mount.

There's a bunch of ground connectors on the inside of the fender close to the positive terminal under the hood. So it's the same as getting a jump start. At least that's how I've done it a few times.

With our remotely located batteries you use the terminals under the hood rather than clamping directly onto the battery posts.
It's wise to pre-check if your jumper cables' clamps fit into the shrouding of the positive connection AND bite solidly.
The available negatives aren't large so it's smart to check for fit. The top engine mount might be too big for some cheap clamps' jaws.

From what i am gathering, one can ground the negative to the chassis of the car instead of the negative on the battery when using the Volvo to jump another car. Is this accurate?

I removed the plastic cover off the battery in the trunk and stashed it in the basement. Everything I have in the spare tire area either fits inside the spare/locked down, or is plastic that wouldn't cause a short. I don't jump other cars very often. But when I have people are like 'oh nice the battery is in the trunk'.
