You may have both errors, switch and ABS module. Haven't had the switch cause the speedo to drop out but the ABS senor failing will cause that. Try to see what codes you can pull. If a speed sensor error shows up it will most likely be the ABS module.
When I had a failing module it gave all sorts of weird issues with whole speedo cluster.
A re-built ABS module is a good investment from our good friend Matty Moo at Mid-West ABS. Costs a little more, but he does an exchange process where you can have your module until the new one arrives, swap it and then return the old one. He will need the part number on the module. Go to his web-site for more info.

No problems with the speedo yet.
It's my understanding when the module goes it's because of cracks in the solder.
Not too hard to reflow solder.

Agreed, many have the soldering skills (but I don't). But opening and closing the case without butchering it is part of the challenge, check out ways others have figured out how to get that done. Maybe get one from a junk yard to try on. Or get a JY one and swap it in and be done (for a while)!

You need a serious solder iron, not a circuit board one, like a 200 watt Weller. It’s about half the price of a good tested unit from Matty

He has a 95, it's a different abs system. It doesn't have the failure issues like the 96 and up.
