hello everyone, I just recently purchased my first volvo. It's a 94 850 turbo. It came with no manual. Now I don't know how this vehicle should be driven. It's an automatic and pretty fun to drive. I mean which gear should it be in while in the streets? highways? And about what speeds should I change the gear?

I've only had the car for about three weeks and I already purcahsed a K&N filter. It arrived but I haven't got around to installing it.

thank you for reading.

If it's an automatic, don't be changing gears...leave it in "D." Here is your owner's manual:

Welcome to Volvo World!

If you need an owners manual check here:

http://www.volvocars.us/

They have a tab for Owner Information that will get you to your manual. They want you to register with an email but the spam is minimal - about 1 per month.

With an automatic I think you just put it in drive and forget about it - the computer makes the decisions for you based on the economy/sport mapping. I bought an automatic for my son but I never drive it, mine has a stick.

Before you install the K&N filter buy a can of MAF cleaner. After you do install the K&N you will likely need it. The oil from the K&N filter tends to foul the MAF sensor - particularly when the filter is new or recently "recharged".

MAF cleaner will usually fix that problem.

You've never driven anything like this?
Just curious, tell us what you think about it and what other cars you've had in the past.

Welcome to the Volvo club!

Ummm, are you saying you've never driven an automatic? If so, then the "D" is where you want the gear to be and to stay.

The other gears are for circumstances that are not typical as well as when you're going through your gears before you check your transmission fluid with your foot on the brake. Sorry if this confuses you further.

Other cars I have owned and driven are a 1971 datsun 510. It had an L20B swap and a 5spd. Slamin' gears and chirpin' wheels. It was fun around the turns. I sold it. I still have my first car, a 1989 IROC-Z. This car is an automatic. The reason I was unsure what gear my volvo should be in is because I would shift from Drive into Overdrive in my camaro.(I guess I was looking for the OD in the volvo) But the volvo is a great car. This sport mode thing is fun! I usually leave it in economy mode.
