Just need to unwrap the OEM harness and cut a few zip ties then reverse what you did. Disconnect both battery cables first. Being an Electrical Engineer for 20+ years it was easy & quick job.

As an architect, I don't benefit from your experience. I think I'll try the replacement, though, despite my reticence. I've been shade-treeing on Volvos for a few years and am gaining a little confidence over time. Thanks for your direction.

I didn't splice the wires but replaced them all leading back to the ECM.

Did you need a Pin Extractor to get the old wires out of the ECM connector? If so, did one come with the kit?

Yes I used my pin extractor to get the wires off the ECM connector. Before I got this 8 piece pin extractor tool I used paper clips to extract wires.

With good hand skills you could do it yourself. Similar to doing the timing belt you need to get the PS and coolant reservoirs out of the way. Pop off the top piece, pop out the center case, remove the fan and you can use the ECM extractor to remove both modules. IIRC the base connector was mounted with 10mm bolts. After removing the base there is very little clearance room to move it around. You want to first move it back then bend it slightly towards the engine. I removed the ETM loom back to the ECM connectors to know which wires needed extraction.

Update. Took a few days, but I thoroughly cleaned the throttle body. Sad to say, to no avail. Still starting fine and then following shut down and restart, throws P2111 code and jumps into limp mode. So, I guess next stop is harness replacement. RickHaleParker, I'm concerned about fitment regarding the harness you referenced a number of posts ago. Is there a difference in the harness for V70 and V70R?

After a quick review of specs, it appears the throttle body across the Volvo L5 spectrum is identical, requiring, I would imagine (Forgive my ignorance RHP) the same harness. Have I deduced this properly? Should have done a little checking before requesting info from this forum. Apologies, too much going on this weekend, not the least of which is an uncooperative car.
