At what mileage did your head gasket fail?
Re: At what mileage did your head gasket fail?
Mine has pressure in cooling system. The reservoir cracked, but i dont know if it was due to extra pressure or just age. Now its impossible to drive faster than 100km/h for long time. Engine builds gases into system and water circulation will stop and engine temp goes to 125*C plus coolant will pass reservoir cap. But driving daily with lower load is fine. No overheating. Only have to refill coolant every ~500km.
Found the old thread and as a remark to my previous post, it was the headgasket, replaced it and all good. Didnt even let the surfaces machined. There was obvious leaking between cyl 4/5. Also some wear on the block surface, as a result of gasket movement due temperature i believe. Havent drove a lot since then, but im running chip and littlebit extra boost with no issues.

I have 234,000 on our 2004 v70 2.5T AWD wagon. Rings on #4 #3 wearing but head gasket seems ok. Did have the radiator fail and pour coolant into the tranny at 180k though...

Replace your coolant! I have 253k mi on my 2004 V70 2.5T and the head gasket is still 'ok' (I do have some loss of compression between #3 & #4. I did have my radiator rot on the inside and mix the coolant and transmission oil - so much coolant that it emptied the reservoir! Luckily we stopped driving it soon enough and after new radiator and about 20 quarts of transmission oil flush it has lasted 70k miles since the radiator broke and seems fine.

My head gasket failed at 160k miles as a result of a coolant hose blowing off at the highway and dumping out all of the coolant. I heard a slight ticking sound but kept driving, trying to determine what it was. By the time coolant was pouring out my exhaust, I was in full panic and kept driving because I was really close to my dealership. When I finally came to a stop, the car wouldn't continue. Got it towed to the dealer and the engine was pronounced dead.
So, I bought a used engine from Eerie VoVo with 100k mi, had it installed, and drove it for another 10 years and 115k miles. Then the car got rear ended, and now it is in possession of abescate.
My new 2000 V70 has 207k mi and hopefully has no head gasket leak. I'll find out as I continue reconditioning it.

Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
