Fuel filler door failure on 2001 V70 T5

The fuel filler door on the V70's automatically locks and unlocks with the remote keyfob controls or with the locking button on the driver's door. Without warning or other electronic/electrical failure, the fuel filler door on our car stays locked. Any suggestions on how to manually bypass the automatic fuel filler door lock? Any suggestions on what might have caused this condition or how to fix it?

There's a manual override pull inside the RR side panel which naturally requires you to remove them before you can get to them.
I think it shows how to in your owner's manual
