Usally I fix everything myself, well, at least I try to do, but I'm not experienced with AC's nor do I have the tools/equipment to do it properly. The AC on my 1998 S70 didn't cool anymore, not at all. After an inspection my guy told me the condensor had a leak and the compressor needed some maintenance. I don't know how to say it in English, but the compressor has a clutch and the gap between the clutch and the compressor can get too big sometimes, you guys probably know what I mean. So, after paying a 500 dollar bill my S70 has icecold AC again :-) I also noticed that the S70 can run pretty economic. I went from Zwolle (Netherlands) to Bruges (Belgium) last weekend and I managed to get 12,8 kilometers per liter fuel (30,16 miles per gallon in US terms, 36,22 mpg in UK terms) so that really made me smile. Have a good Easter!
Happy Easter to you and everyone else here as well!

That's a pretty common problem with these cars. My cousin had a problem with that on his S70, the clutch was wobbling around and had a large gap. 30 MPG would be really nice, I get about 20 with my driving style around here. My R averages about 17-18, but I've been disconnecting the battery and doing lots of testing lately. I'm sure that will go up once I start driving it normally.
Keep in mind, I was driving with a speed of 110 km/h (±70 mph) and used the cruise control everywhere I could. I think it's a fun challenge driving cars as these Volvos as economic as you can (without bothering other drivers ofcourse).
I'm still pretty proud of the 27.6 MPG I achieved with average speed of 80mph on steep terrain. If you manage your throttle well and pay attention to the instant economy gauge, you can average 28mpg pretty easily, 30 with some added effort.

So I tested compression on the 850 and she's a goner! 60 PSI on cylinder 1 dry, wet it goes to 160 and then drops down to 30 rather quickly. Cylinder 5 won't even hold 60... it shot up to 60 and dropped down to 20 PSI!

Time to part out! Already got the front end torn down.

Not today, but last week I finally found the courage to get rid of the angle gear as per Ed Sykes' Ghetto Procedure involving hose clamps.
Thank you Ed for sharing your pics earlier, this inspired me to do the same!
I managed to reuse the sleeve that had been welded up to the angle gear before by grinding it in half.

I'm beginning to wonder if that's what killed the AW55 I had in my V70R before I bought it. Maybe all the fluid drained out from the smaller diameter axle. I can't remember exactly how it was set up.

Learned that 3/4 PEX clamps work perfectly as Oetingers for EVAP clamps on J and L hose - and cost a nickel in the Lowes mixed up clamp bin.

It is a crime to open a pack of 3/4 and pour it into the bin.

I forgot to take a picture of it but hauled a twin bed on the roof earlier. The I admired the shine from afar :-)

There is a hollow shaft with splines on the outside coming from the transmission. The sleeve goes over this splined shaft and connects the trans to angle gear.
The RH drive axle slides into the hollow axle. So there is two seals: one on the inside of the hollow axle, sealing the RH shaft. The other goes around the sleeve, sealing the splined shaft+sleeve. So, you need a sleeve on there to create a seal.
To ensure it doesn't leak between the splines, I sort of glued the sleeve to the shaft using Loctite silicon sealant.

Last week all I did is take advantage of my lifetime alignment . .It was out and now it's not.
Steering wheel is nicely centered again. Which , feels strange after driving for a few months with it being a a few degrees off.

Oh and I also switched from winter to summer tires before the alignment . It rides a bit quieter now.
