950c TPS error

Post by Webpirate »

I have a 2006 Volvo s40. A while ago the dreaded read triangle came on. Restarted the car everything was fine. Tried to read the code with an elm327 reader, it said no error code even though the red light was on. This happened a few more time before I was able to get a code reader that would see that code. The code came back as 950c. No problem I'll just replace the accelerator pedal. Replaced the pedal and it was ok for a few days. Code came back. Cleaned throttle body. Code came back. Cleaned electrical connector on throttle body. Code came back. Cleaned electrical connector on main fuse box harness and the code came back again.
The car runs ok, gas pedal is responsive.
My elm327 reader and the torque app does show PedalE drop to 0% just before the red triangle comes on. If I step on the gas pedal and clear the code it's good for a few minutes or a few days.. there's no pattern.. unless perhaps weather...

And ideas??

Further update. Took off the main computer wire harness and found this. Does anyone know if this could have been an issue with the accelerator pedal voltage difference??

I've cleaned it with electronic contact cleaner and a plastic bristle brush..

There are seven different subsets of ECM-950C. You need Vida-DiCE to zero in on which one of the seven.

It could be:
1. Accelerator Pedal (AP)
2. Central Electronic Module (CEM)
3. Control Area Network (CAN)
4. Defective connectors
5. Defective wires.

Electronic Throttle Module (ETM) does not make the list.

Took the cem out cleaned everything. Everything looked good except all the fuse blades were tarnished brown. Took a brush and shined them all up.. then shined up all the fuses in the engine compartment panel as well.. hopefully this fixes it..

Also rememberd that sometimes the red triangle would come on right after starting the car other times(like last night) would come on 40km into my 66km ride home..

I leave my phone in the holder with torque app running so when pedale drops to 0% I can get ready to clear the light. Other times a restart of the car would make the light go away..

I wonder if leaving my elm327 plugged in all the time could cause the issue??

Further update: So far so good after 450kms no red triangle.

Also: for those who visit scrap yards like I do.. my car is a manual transmission and apparently there are different accelerator pedals for automatic and manuals. When I replace my pedal I went to scrap yard and there were only automatics there SO I grabbed one of the pedals off the automatics and it worked just fine. It's been working fine..
