S80 Cornering Light Lens and/or Bulb Replacement 1999-2001

Broken Cornering Light lens? Bulb out? Here's how to fix it.

Pic of broken light:

Open the hood and locate the slot to insert the srewdriver to release the light.

The slot is in the center of this pic:

Insert the screwdriver in the slot and press down GENTLY on the plastic locking tab. If you press too hard, you will break the tab off (don't ask me how I know!), not an issue if you are replacing the light, but bad news if you're just replacing the bulb. Here's a pic with the screwdriver in the slot:

Image

While holding the tab down with the screwdriver, gently wiggle and pull the light straight forward out of the opening in the car:

Here's the light removed from the opening:

The light socket is next to my thumb in this pic:

To remove it, grasp it firmly and turn it 1/8 turn counterclockwise:

Then pull it straight back out of the opening:

Here's the opening in the car with the light removed:

To remove the bulb from the socket, gently push in on the bulb and turn it 1/8 turn counterclockwise, then pull it straight out:

Reverse the above procedure to put it all back together.

I got my new light online for about $57. God only knows how much the dealer would have charged me to fix this.

Thanks for looking and Good luck!

Hey MIJ, feel free to add this the repair procedure list.

The plastic locking tab tends to break, even without being touched. The effect is an S80 with one (or two) cornering light hanging out of the body on about 20 cm of wires. The wires are indeed strong, you don't loose the lights even at highway speeds.

It could look really funny for the others, you notice it from the sould of their horns  , but it is quite scary when you notice it on your own car :(

Fixes are to replace it; to glue it in somehow; or to drill a vertical whole near the broken tab and fix it in position with some small rod.

I am new to the Volvo world. But I have a 2001 S80 and I wanted to change the front turn bulbs to Chrome ones. First off as in other messages, you might want to buy new corner lenses cause the tabs do break with no effort. Second online and in books they say the bulb is a 1157 and that is not right in my case. I found out the bulb is a 7507-A.

This worked for my 2005 S80 also, same procedure, but I am having a problem getting the new replacement lens to lock in place (I am replacing a broken lens, complete with new bulb). The old lens came out easily, but despite my best attempts the new lens refuses to click in, although it stays in place by simple friction. The tabs on both the old and new lenses appear identical, so maybe I just need to push harder? I have given it a strong shove with the palm of my hand, but it just pops back out maybe 1/4" beyond the neighboring headlight. Any ideas?

I'm trying to complete this repair and have hit a bump. I lost the entire driver side turn signal lens, bulb socket and electrical wiring connectors (just 3 bare wires hanging). I have the light lens and bulb/socket replacement parts but have been unable to find the 3 wire female pigtail or connector that attaches to 3 prong male bulb socket. How do I complete this repair? What parts do I need (local volvo parts dealers say the part is not available)? If I need to splice the wires what are my options?
