My wife recently bought an '01 V70 with 50k. The cabin fan does not work on any setting. She said it suddenly came on for a few minutes one time. There are no codes on the OBD. There are no flashing lights. You can hear the dampers open and close. The ECC is all very intimidating. Where do I start?
Thanks,
-steve

If it's a recent purchase and if you bought from a dealer, then maybe they would fix it. I really don't know much about the newer V70 inside climate control systems. Sorry.

MIJ,
No, she bought it from an individual. I said in another thread that this one was a '04, but it's '01 instead. I have been working on her old '98 V70 since she got this one. The '98 is coming along nicely so the wife figures that if I can fix oil and coolant leaks a little fan would be a piece of cake. Perhaps not true.
Can antone tell me where the cabin fan and the fan relay are located and how you get to them?

The fan is located under the dash on the passenger side. The fan control module is mounted near it
To get to it you will need to remove the front door sill trim, soundproofing panel under the glove compartment, side panel of the centre console and the glove compartment. When they are out of the way the fan is easily seen and only needs 5 screws and an electric connector removed to get it out.
I can't find a relay listed specifically for the fan.
Bill.

Thank you Bill. That helps a lot and it doesn't sound too traumatic. I was afraid someone was going to tell me I needed to pull off the dash and steering wheel.
Sorry I said 'relay'. I should have said 'resistor pack'. Someone here mentioned replacing the fan resistor pack. I do not know what a resistor pack does - unless it controls fan speed or something. Does an '01 V70 have a fan resistor pack and is it in the vicinity of the fan motor?
Thank You,
-steve

The dreaded resistor pack question.
As far as I can tell, after studying wiring diagrams for most models of Volvo, those with all singing, all dancing Electronic Climate Control systems do not have resistor packs. They have blower fan control modules situated near to the fan motor.
On the peasants' cars we have manual heater controls with a resistor pack which does control all the speeds except the fastest. That is controlled by a relay.
I may get shot down on this but, as I have said, that is how it appears from the diagrams.
Bill.
